Project Overview

Client presentation and a demonstration of our redesign

Research

We conducted interviews with users of Nintendo products in order to gain a better understanding of potential pain points in the Nintendo Switch's UI. The key takeaways that arose from our interviews were as follows:

  • Users would like to be able to customize their home screen. Options such as different themes and text sizes were recommended
  • Folder Creation. Users want the ability to sort their game library more easily, particularly with the ability to create folders and organize them individually
  • Visibility Improvements. Users would like to be able to access game and DLC info more easily
  • More features with the friends list. Currently, the Friends List on the Nintendo Switch simply shows you what your friends are playing. Users would like to be able to message their friends on the console, as well as invite them to games and other activities directly from their friends list.
  • Improved Functionality of the eShop. Users would like to be able to leave reviews as well as see other reviews posted online. Similar to other online retail stores.

Wireframes and Mockups

Our wireframes aimed to maintain the simplistic and easy to navigate style of the current Nintendo Switch. These wireframes were the starting point of our redesign and were designed with customization in mind. As we planned to add customization via themes, folders and other functionality improvements, we did not want to clutter the home screen with too many other things.

After creating the wireframes, we began to create mockups to show how the themes would interact with other new features such as the folders, game information and the friends list.

Prototype and Demonstration

Finally, we created a prototype in order to test how these new features would interact together. You can view our prototype yourself by clicking here.
